THE POLITICS OF COLOR

The difficult realities facing our country have led me to create images that address the situation directly. I began experimenting with the use of color as a metaphor for the politics of diversity. My 2020-2021 solo exhibition “The Politics of Color” featuring paintings alongside knitted/crocheted sculpture discussed the formal and symbolic qualities of color as they relate to social justice issues. This exhibition also included the painting “Complexion” made entirely of skin tones to discuss racial diversity and equality as they exist in the woven knots of life. This work is subtle, poetic and evocative, letting the viewer make their own connections with larger socio-political questions and issues.
